Use of Was/ were + not supposed to
English এ কিছু sentence আছে যেগুলোকে ” Obligation বা বাধ্যবাধকতা ” বলা হয়। বাংলাতে আমরা খুব সহজে কিছু কথা বলে থাকি, যেমনঃ আমার কাজটি করার কথা ছিল না, তার এখানে আসার কথা ছিল না ইত্যাদি, but English এ এই sentence গুলো তৈরি করতে গেলে আমরা একটু confused হয়ে যায়। এই sentence গুলোকে ” Obligation বা বাধ্যবাধকতা ” বলা হয়। English এ এই sentence গুলো তৈরি করতে হলে Was/ were + not এর সাথে supposed to যোগ করে আমরা এই sentence গুলো তৈরি করতে পারি। আমরা আজকের এই Lesson এ শিখবো কত সহজে এই বাক্য গুলো English এ তৈরি করা যায় এবং আমাদের প্রতিদিনের English Conversation এ ব্যবহার করা যায়। Let’s have a look.
Was/ were + not supposed to = কিছু করার কথা ছিল না
ব্যবহারের ক্ষেত্রে : বাংলা বাক্যের শেষে “কিছু করার কথা ছিল না ” থাকলে was/ were +not + supposed to ব্যাবহার করে English Sentence তৈরি করতে হয়।
Structure: subject + was/ were +not + supposed to + verb (present form) + extension
Pronoun Setting: Subject যদি he, she, it, this, that, singular noun, uncountable noun এবং I হয় তাহলে auxiliary verb was হয় , বাকি সকল ক্ষেত্রে were হয়।
Example
- আমার কাজটি করার কথা ছিল না – I was not supposed to do the work.
- তার ক্লাসে আসার কথা ছিল না – He wasn’t supposed to come to class.
- তোমার ইংরেজীতে কথা বলার কথা ছিল না – You weren’t supposed to speak English.
- জিমির ফোন কেনার কথা ছিল না – Jimmy was not supposed to buy a phone.
- তাদেরকে আমার বাড়িতে আমন্ত্রণ করার কথা ছিল না – They weren’t supposed to invite at my house.
- ফাহমিদের এখানে আসার কথা ছিল না – Fahmid was not supposed to come here.
- তোমার ভুল করার কথা ছিল না – You were not supposed to make mistake.
- আমার আজ তোমাকে ফোন করার কথা ছিল না – Today I was not supposed to call you.
- আমার আজ রাতে বাসায় থাকার কথা ছিল না – I wasn’t supposed to be at home tonight.
- তোমার তাকে স্পর্শ করার কথা ছিল না – You were not supposed to touch her.
- আমার রক্ত দান করার কথা ছিল না – I was not supposed to donate blood.
- তার আজ রাতে খাবার রান্না করার কথা ছিল না – She was not supposed to cook meal tonight.
- আমাদের তাদের দলে যোগ দেওয়ার কথা ছিল না – We were not supposed to join their team.
- সকল কর্মচারীদের মিটিং এ উপস্থিত হওয়ার কথা ছিল না – All of the employees weren’t supposed to attend today’s meeting.
