Use of Was/ were + supposed to

English এ  কিছু sentence আছে যেগুলোকে ” Obligation বা বাধ্যবাধকতা ” বলা হয়। বাংলাতে আমরা খুব সহজে কিছু কথা বলে থাকি, যেমনঃ আমার কাজটি করার কথা ছিল, তার এখানে আসার কথা ছিল ইত্যাদি, but English এ এই sentence গুলো তৈরি করতে গেলে আমরা একটু confused হয়ে যায়। এই sentence গুলোকে ” Obligation বা বাধ্যবাধকতা ” বলা হয়। English এ এই sentence গুলো তৈরি করতে হলে Was/ were এর সাথে supposed to যোগ করে আমরা এই sentence গুলো তৈরি  করতে পারি। আমরা আজকের এই Lesson এ শিখবো কত সহজে এই বাক্য গুলো English এ তৈরি করা যায় এবং আমাদের প্রতিদিনের English Conversation এ ব্যবহার করা যায়। Let’s have a look. 

Was/ were + supposed to = কিছু করার কথা ছিল

ব্যবহারের ক্ষেত্রে : বাংলা বাক্যের শেষে “কিছু করার কথা ছিল” থাকলে was/ were + supposed to ব্যাবহার করে English Sentence তৈরি করতে হয়।

Structure: subject + was/ were + supposed to + verb (present form) + extension     

Pronoun Setting:  Subject যদি  he, she, it, this, that, singular noun, uncountable noun এবং I হয় তাহলে  auxiliary verb was হয় , বাকি সকল ক্ষেত্রে were হয়।

Example

• আমার কাজটি করার কথা ছিল – I was supposed to do the work.    
• তার সমুদ্র সৈকতে যাওয়ার কথা ছিল – He was supposed to go to beach.        
• তোমার ইংরেজীতে কথা বলার কথা ছিল – You were supposed to speak English.   
• জিমির গাছে পানি দেওয়ার কথা ছিল – Jimmy was supposed to water the plant.    
• তাদেরকে আমার বাড়িতে আমন্ত্রণ করার কথা ছিল – They were supposed to invite at my house.
• ফাহমিদের একটি পার্টির আয়োজন করার কথা ছিল – Fahmid was supposed to arrange a party.
• তোমার আজ নতুন কিছু শেখার কথা ছিল – Today you were supposed to learn something new.  
• তোমার খুব তাড়াতাড়ি চাকরি পাওয়ার কথা ছিল – You were supposed to get a job very soon.    
• আমার আজ রাতে বাসায় থাকার কথা ছিল – I was supposed to be at home tonight.  
• তোমার নামাজ পড়ার কথা ছিল – You were supposed to perform prayer.     
• আমার রক্ত দান করার কথা ছিল – I was supposed to donate blood.  
• তার আজ রাতে খাবার রান্না করার কথা ছিল – She was supposed to cook meal tonight.
• আমাদের আজ রেস্তোরাঁ বুক করার কথা ছিল – We were supposed to book a restaurant today.
• সকল কর্মচারীদের মিটিং এ উপস্থিত হওয়ার কথা ছিল – All of the employees were supposed to attend today’s meeting.
